I love beachy and boho. Find out how I created my own modern spin on my version of a California beach home office.
I’ve lived in California for twenty years now, and am still smitten with the weather, the palm trees and that relaxed beach vibe. When I decided to makeover my “craft room” I knew it needed to become a California beach home office. Think surf shack, think boho, think vintage modern. It’s all these things and more and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! Remember when I was planning this way back in summer? see that post here Well, I’m so excited to finally share it with you, and to share how budget friendly these pieces were! I’ve sourced them all for you!
Get the look- key elements for nailing the California beach home office
1. Lots of rattan

–mirror–
This office space is tiny and because my wallpaper is bright and busy I wanted to balance the rest of the space out with neutrals. The rattan pieces I added give the room the vintage modern vibe you might see in a California beach home. The bookcase is from Urban Outfitters. I love UO for home decor. Did you know you can actually find pretty reasonably priced boho beach home decor there? Most of the art I used for this home office is from there too.
I’m obsessed with this rattan bookshelf!

The rattan pendant light was on sale for $80 and is also from Urban Outfitters. I love how it ties into the stool I got from Homegoods which was also a steal!

2. Macrame somewhere

Nothing says boho quite like macrame. These plant hangers were found at Marshalls and Home goods and were between $10-$12. I love hanging them in corners and from the ceiling, they become instant art for the room!
This light was also a must have. The futon is vintage handed down from my aunt!
3. Every California beach home office needs natural materials
The driftwood desk I found at World Market- it was a managers special! At $200 it was 50% off! I had been eyeing this beauty for a while and was so glad to find this on sale. To view some of the other beachy boho desks I was contemplating check out this post here.

4. Punchy art

this one is also from Urban
5. Lots of plants
To me, beach and boho and California all mean plants. Popping in all that green just gives my home office the perfect fresh natural vibes.

6. Tie-dye somewhere
I thought this beautiful blue modern tie dye shibori-style wall paper really added to the California cool vintage modern vibe this room has. This is a peel and stick respositionable wall paper I found on Etsy here. It wasn’t very hard to put up because I could move it if I made a mistake. My walls are textured and I have noticed some bubbles forming so the jury is still out on how long this pretty paper will stay up! Fingers crossed!

I also painted my ceiling a light blue to highlight these cute ceilings, but I’m not gonna lie it was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be!

Here are the before pics of my California beach home office when it was still just a craft room.
So much better and lighter don’t ya think?
Thanks so much for sticking with me on this journey and for all your input! If you want to see my original inspiration boards for this room check out this post here. And I linked all the cutest boho desks for small spaces in this link here. This room is actually incredibly small so I had to get very creative. Its soooo nice to have a space dedicated just for me! I get to come into this little retreat now and get all my creative juices flowin! If you don’t have space in your home for a separate room I highly recommend you investigate she-shed options! So worth it! ha!
Have a great week!
XO,

Where did you get the adorable sofa?! So pretty.
Hi Taylor! Thanks so much… its actually vintage handed down from my great aunt. 😉
