Why a mason jar snow globe?
Personally, I love snow globes. I loved them ever since I was a little girl. I found them to be so magical and was mesmerized by the snow and glitter. Making gifts for the holidays can be so fun (if you have the time!) yikes! 🙂 Check out this post here for some fun ideas I’ve made in the past. If you’re looking for a creative way to give a gift card so it can feel more personal you’ll love this mason jar snow globe tutorial! What you’ll need:
- mason jar
- distilled water
- glycerin
- glitter
- decorative items
- hot glue or super glue
- spray glue (if you’re glitterifying an object)
- ribbon
- gift card
How to make a mason jar snow globe:
STEP 1:
Turn over the bottom of the lid and glue down the items for your scene.
Here’s what we created…
Little miniature figurines can get expensive so we used a plastic dog from one of those tubes of toy animals you find at craft stores. Similar ones here. We sprayed the dog with spray glue then dipped him in glitter. Just adds a bit of glam to your snow globe. If you buy in bulk like this you can make lots of these snow globes very inexpensively. And by covering them with glitter you can customize them to fit whatever scene you are creating!
Find the mini bottle brush trees we used here.
STEP 2:
Spread hot glue in a thick strip along the small end of your gift card. Hold it in place on your lid for several seconds so it can set.
STEP 3:
Hot glue ribbon along the outer edge of your lid.
STEP 4:
Fill jar with distilled water
STEP 5:
Add glitter
STEP 6:Â
Add a couple drop of glycerin (this will help your glitter to fall slower)
All you do to get the gift card out is turn the jar over, open the lid and pull off the card. Then seal it back up and voila!
This cute mason jar snow globe really does make for a magical gift.
I know it’s a much bigger process than just grabbing a gift card and throwing it in an envelope. But I can guarantee you that whoever receives this will be sooo excited!
Here’s the video tutorial!
Please let me know if you end up making one! I’d love to see it!
