A Travertine Tile Modern Coastal Bathroom

Brighten a beige travertine tile bathroom with a modern coastal look!

We purchased a bank-owned home in the foothills of Carpinteria this past January.

Back in January my husband and I bought a bank-owned property out in the country. While the home is beautiful it does need a bit of work. Lots of rooms were unfinished, and because it was a foreclosure it was missing more than a few things. So for now, let’s start with the master bathroom. This master bath is STUNNING you guys! As in, its my favorite room in the house! But, it was originally VERY BEIGE. Lots of beige travertine tile with matching beige walls. The previous owners must have matched the paint to the tile because the color was exactly the same. The first thing we did to brighten up this travertine bathroom was to paint it white. This way the beige tile could pop more. This one change made the room look so much bigger!

Just look at the view outside that window!

My best tips for brightening a beige travertine tile bathroom-

Tip 1: White paint

My mother in law helping us paint! One of the best ways to brighten a beige bathroom is with white paint.

Just look at how much this white paint already makes a difference! Personally, I love Benjamin Moore’s White Dove. It has just enough warmth to it without it being too creamy or yellow. We actually painted the entire downstairs of our other home this white. Since then we’ve had three other friends use the same color after seeing how our place turned out!

Another tip for brightening a beige room: Plants!

Always always plants. That pop of green just adds life to a room- especially a beige room! Beige travertine tile doesn’t have to be outdated- or worse- boring. Think of it as the perfect neutral. In this case I’m thinking of my tile as a sandy beach. The perfect accessory to a modern coastal bathroom! ha! These tones also work perfectly with all the rattan, natural, neutral boho decor we’re seeing these days.

Tip 3: Add bright accessories with art and rugs.

This is a tip I ALWAYS use to brighten or liven up a room actually. In fact, you can see how I did this in these posts for both outside and inside.

Here’s a great example of how a fun rug adds just the right pop to any neutral space.

Okay, so here’s the before of my master bath:

A before shot of the master bath before we painted everything white and added the vanity.

And here is the same space with white paint and the new vanity.

If you’ve been following me on Instagram you’ve seen us painting, and even helped me decide on what color to paint that wall to the right! Looking more fresh and modern already am I right?! I think this tile is starting to look pretty awesome. 🙂

Here’s how I plan to update the rest of this travertine tile bathroom.
