A little bit about me…
Hi! Welcome! Thanks for stopping by to check out my blog! I’ve had this blog on my never ending “to-do” list for a really long time so its really nice to finally meet you.
I started out like a lot of moms with a “family blog.” You remember blogspot right? Well yes, I had a lovely little family blog where I liked posting pics of my one, then two, then– yes 3 daughters! It was my way of documenting EVERYTHING so that I could essentially end up with a “Notebook” my husband could read to me one day when I’m old with dementia just like Rachel.
Then, somewhere along the way the infamous Pinterest happened. Yessss so many of us have a love/hate relationship with Pinterest. Maybe most teetering on the hate side these days with the inevitable comparison/inadequacy trap we all fall victim too- and if you say you don’t do that, well you’re just a liar. 😉
I tell you this because… please forgive me, but many of my posts will be cutesy crafts or parties I have thrown over the years— and yes many inspired by something I saw on Pinterest. (cue emoji Icon with monkey covering eyes). I had this dream of slowly documenting it all because of course one day I’d have a huge blog with lots of loyal followers oohing and ahhhhing over my lovely designs and genius creations.
So yes, you’ll see some of that stuff and some pictures will be super pretty and some will just be average iphone pics because that was the best I could muster at the time.
But, after child three I started to realize I could not pull off any more elaborate parties, and I didn’t have the energy or patience anymore to spend all night crafting some crazy gift for the preschool teachers. (sorry ladies, love you I really do 😉 I had to learn how to maximize my time and efforts. What could I give or create that would be the least amount of effort, or require the least amount of experience and talent and really have a WOW factor?
Cue, the idea that EVERYMOM can be a total stud. You don’t have to have a degree from Michael’s Craft Store or have been a professional photographer or seamstress or baker or whatever to be a total glam kick ass mom. I will do my best here to show you an option for wherever you are. Because heck, sometimes even the busiest and most distracted moms want to get in touch with their creative side once in a while- we just don’t want to stay up all night doing it. 😉
And remember while some of my “past life” parties or crafts might have you going “really lady? get a job, who has the time for that?!” I want you to remember to give yourself grace. I believe in a community where we can be inspired by each other while not comparing ourselves. Grace in the grit ladies, grace in the grit.
And if you’re wondering about the blog name— my childhood nickname was Lollypop.
My dad thought my curls made me a dead ringer for Shirley Temple (if you’re old enough you remember that she was an actress before she was a child’s sparkly beverage). She sang the “Good ship Lollipop” on one of her movies, and my dad dubbed that song for me; however he had his own twist to it which maybe one day I will sing for you. Poplolly is also a French term of endearment.
The author Ms. SUSAN KELZ SPERLING describes it as “Poplollies are sweet little darlings. It’s a wonderful term for a person whom you have a special fondness for. Poplolly comes from the French term poupoulet(ph), `a sweet baby.’ Many languages have the `P’ sound for little puppies, little pooches, little poo-poos, little poo-pah. The British took a French term, poupoulet, and turned it into poplolly.”
So there you have it. Because I have three sweet little darlings, and I’m from a French Louisiana background; and I have a father who thinks I should have been in the movies– here we are. Welcome to Poplolly Co.
